Butterfly Votive Class
Fly into spring by creating a beautiful butterfly votive
Class Description
This is an intermediate-to-advanced class. You need experience with cutting glass. Let your creativity take flight in this joyful fused-glass workshop, where you’ll design and create a glowing butterfly votive. Students will use COE 90 fusible glass, vibrant frit, and optional stringers or confetti to build a one‑of‑a‑kind butterfly that will be slumped into a votive shape after firing. No experience is needed—just a love of color and a willingness to play. Your finished piece will sparkle beautifully with candlelight, making it a perfect keepsake or gift. ✨ Working with Glass Frit How do different frit sizes (powder, fine, medium, coarse) behave in the kiln Techniques for shading, blending, and layering frit to create depth and color transitions How to use frit to define details like wing patterns, gradients, and texture Best practices for applying frit so it stays crisp and intentional during firing 🎨 Designing a Butterfly How to plan a simple, balanced butterfly silhouette Tips for choosing a color palette that glows beautifully when illuminated How to create symmetry (or playful asymmetry) in wing patterns Using stencils, templates, or freehand drawing to guide your design Understanding how design choices change after fusing—what softens, what stays sharp 🔥 Fusing & Slumping Concepts What happens during a contour or full fuse How glass thickness and frit volume affect the final piece How your flat design becomes a curved votive during the slump firing Purchase additional votives for $45 when placing your class order.
