100L - Introduction to Stained Glass
Start your journey into the art of stained glass making using lead came!
Class Description
This class is meant to serve as an introduction to stained glass production for a complete beginner. Students will design and construct their own stained glass window using the lead came method. Students will be instructed throughout the entire process of making a stained glass piece, from glass selection to glass cutting, grinding, lead fitting, soldering, and post-production. The student will leave the class with their own window which can be suspended from hanging points or turned into a garden stake. This class is a prerequisite for more advanced stained glass classes which use the lead method. Safety: This class involves the cutting of pieces of glass, using a soldering iron that heats to ~400 degrees Celsius, and using lead solder. Protective equipment in the form of masks and safety glasses are provided for the class. If you bring any food or drink it must be stored and sealed during the class. Due to the presence of lead in the workshop, it is strongly advised that pregnant women do not attend this class.
