100F - Introduction to Stained Glass

Class Description

This class is intended as an introduction to stained glass production for a complete beginner. Students will select from several pre-made patterns for a 5x5" stained glass suncatcher made using the copper foil method, popularized by Tiffany Studios, who are known for their distinctive stained glass lampshades. Students will be instructed throughout the entire process of making a stained-glass piece, from glass selection to cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, and post-production. The student will leave the class with their own suncatcher, which can be suspended from a hanging point or displayed on a stand. This course is a prerequisite for more advanced stained-glass classes that use the copper-foil method. Safety: This course involves cutting pieces of glass, using a soldering iron that reaches ~400 degrees Celsius, and using lead solder. Protective equipment in the form of masks and safety glasses is provided for the class. If you bring any food or drink it must be stored and sealed during the class. Due to the presence of lead in the workshop, pregnant women are strongly advised not to attend this class.
