100F - Introduction to Stained Glass
Start your journey into the art of stained glass making using copper foil!
Class Description
This class is meant to serve as an introduction to stained glass production for a complete beginner. Students will select from several pre-made patterns for a 5x5" stained glass suncatcher made using the copper foil method, popularized by Tiffany Studios who are known for their distinctive stained glass lampshades. Students will be instructed throughout the entire process of making a stained glass piece, from glass selection to glass cutting, grinding, foiling, soldering, and post-production. The student will leave the class with their own suncatcher which can be suspended from hanging points or displayed in a stand. This course is a prerequisite for more advanced stained glass classes which use the copper foil method. Safety: This course involves the cutting of pieces of glass, using a soldering iron that heats to ~400 degrees Celsius, and using lead solder. Protective equipment in the form of masks and safety glasses are provided for the class. If you bring any food or drink it must be stored and sealed during the class. Due to the presence of lead in the workshop, it is strongly advised that pregnant women do not attend this class.
